1. I could imagine the deserializers being handed a special kind of stream that
counts down the remaining bytes and then signals EOF.
2. On a personal note, I think excluding length from packets is risky. It
implies a protocol that assumes that TCP connections never stop half way. If
you've ever seen a web browser only render half a photo, you know that
assumption isn't always valid.
