Excellent :) The reason I got onto this path was building compact DFAs.
It actually seems like something Java ought to be able to do IMO. For
now I'm looking into bytecode generation though, which will probably
suffice.

Doing a JEP is even more clever though. It lends a certain amount of
credibility. At least until you read the "Motivation" section anyway.
