This is all getting increasingly off-topic (well, it is Christmas), but I'll 
just add that when I first ported my PostScript interpreter to NextStep, I 
discovered that brk(2) isn't even a system call in Mach-based systems.  It's 
all based on discontiguous "regions" of memory, as I recall.....
