I wish I knew. With Fedora I couldn't do either. I just had to switch distros. Interestingly, it only affected my 32-bit machine; 64-bit was fine. Now I use: gcc (Ubuntu 4.3.2-1ubuntu12) 4.3.2 GNU assembler (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.18.93.20081009 I know there are others that work too.
