It sounds like the linker on your Linux distribution is broken. I suggest
you build and use the reference tool chain:
$ cd util/crossgcc
$ ./buildgcc
$ cd ../..
$ rm .xcompile
$ make
It would be nice to report the issue in the Redhat bug tracker, so they
can fix it.
