That's maybe an advantage of a non-native English speaker:
one's not so good at writing, but when there's something odd
when one reads it, then s(he) reads it twice or a third time
to try to understand, and when it doesn't make sense in the
end, then one has found such a typo.
A native speaker might easily read over it because s(he) got
the sense of that sentence too quick ;-)
