Looking at the "NEWS" file ( https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/coreutils.git/tree/NEWS#n1135 ),
"-endian" was added in version 8.23, released in July 2014 ( https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/coreutils.git/tree/NEWS#n1026 ). regards, - assaf
