Modernizations at the libc level are sometimes blocked by one of these two arguments: - "The standards say ..." - "Some enterprise application may depend on it" Even outright bug fixes are sometimes blocked by such an argument [1][2]. Therefore sometimes, the applications have to modernize their behaviour one by one.
