I haven't taken a full look at the patch yet, but wanted to mention that my preference is for using local file:// urls. It will be a bit awkward when someone inevitably tries to view the documentation from --help and gnu.org is down. Also, although almost everywhere has an internet connection nowadays, I still think it is worth working when that is not a case. I agree the versioning issue isn't huge, but sometimes we do introduce new options. The reason I like file:// urls is separate from that, but having them point to the right version is a nice side effect. Collin
