Four or more of years of Information Technology experience are a requirement, with one or two year's exposure to a major Relational Management Database System (RDBMS) such as Sybase. · The DBA should possess the following skills o Expert in Transact SQL scripting for SYBASE databases o Proficient in the understanding of SYBASE stored procedures o High level experience and understanding of UNIX Shell scripting (korn, c-shell, bourne shell) o Knowledge of SQL o Good written and oral communications skills o Ability to handle basic systems administration tasks for UNIX o Ability to work well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise o Successful experience as a member of a project group o Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work in a team o Use of a data modeling tool such as Erwin, PowerDesigner or Designer/2000 o Data modeling, data entity analysis, and database design skills may be required o Ability to provide project cost and time estimates for database related tasks with minimal assistance o Ability to manage large, complex databases with replication and multi-node configurations for SYBASE databases. o May develop comprehensive DB architecture, implementation/upgrade plans o Assists in definition of database standards, policies, and procedures o High proficiency in database analysis and tuning o Proficient in data quality and integrity analysis and tools o Leads data requirements, architecture review, and modeling sessions Position Summary This Database Analyst (DBA) is primarily responsible designing and coding an access administration wrapper in t-sql for the Sybase database environment. In addition, the DBA will also be responsible for the health and stability of databases used within RFS. The DBA supports the activities of the RSF IT staff for specific applications by providing in-depth consulting to client, IT management, and IT staff at a medium technical level. This includes the identification and resolution of information flow, content issues, and the transformation of business requirements into database definitions. The DBA resolves all database-related issues and works closely with the Development, Project Management and ETS staff. The DBA works with the Project Manager, Development team and Business clients to document business requirements, and independently to create database related cost estimates. The DBA performs database design reviews to enforce best practices and standards and may develop detailed logical data models. The DBA may also design a physical data model based on the logical data model and implement the physical data model in the database. The DBA's support activities include analyzing, testing, and implementing physical database designs to support various business applications. The DBA also establishes and maintains a very high level of user trust and confidence towards IT's responsiveness to user's needs. The DBA is required to work with customers of varying technical levels in a high-pressure and complex environment. Summary/Justification: The non-production database administration team currently supports the following SYBASE databases: Zippy, APStar, Adios and Webstats. Upcoming projects in the SYBASE space include upgrades of APStar and Adios and Webstats to support WaMu. In addition there are several requests to replicate data between SYBASE applications and other databases which have been delayed due to resource constraints. Because of this project workload in addition to the full time workload that day-to-day support of the SYBASE applications entail, we require a full time resource which is being requested on another requisition. This contract resource will support the SYBASE audit which is upcoming in 2009 and do the coding for a wrapper which will support access admin functionality for all Sybase databases for production and non-production. This issue has been identified as critical by the Retail IT risk team and must be remediated before the completion of the audit in 2009.
