System Security/Application Engineer Location : Branchburg, NJ Duration : 8 Months Rate : DOE GENERAL SUMMARY The Security Administrator's role is to ensure the secure operation of the in-house computer systems, servers, and network connections. This includes checking server logs, scrutinizing network traffic, establishing and updating virus scans, and troubleshooting. This person will also analyze and resolve security breaches and vulnerability issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and conduct user activity audits where required. Engineer will be responsible for supporting Microsoft servers, business and IT applications. This position is also responsible for documentation of all these systems and to report on these operations including writing GMP documents (IQ/OQ/PQ). Develop, implement, maintain, and oversee enforcement of policies, procedures and associated plans for system security administration and user system access based on industry-standard best practices 2. Design and implement security best practices for operation systems, servers and software applications 3. Assess need for any security reconfigurations (minor or significant) and execute them if required 4. Keep current with emerging security alerts and issues 5. Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols and standards in support of security enhancement and development efforts 6. Review existing technology implementations and suggest and implement improvements and upgrades 7. Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to obtain protection services and products 8. Recommend, schedule and perform security improvements, upgrades and/or purchases 9. Create and maintain documentation for server and security implementations and procedures 10. Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes 11. Deploy, manage and maintain all server security systems and their corresponding or associated software, intrusion detection systems, and anti-virus software 12. Design, perform, and /or oversee penetration testing of all systems in order to identify system vulnerabilities 13. Design, implement, and report on security system and end user activity audits 14. Monitor server logs, intrusion detection logs, and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity. Interpret activity and make recommendations for resolution 15. Recommend, schedule (where appropriate), and apply fixes, security patches, disaster recovery procedures, and any other measures required in the event of a security breach 16. Download and test new security software and/or technologies 17. Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team 18. Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE 1. 5 + years experience with Windows Server operating systems 2000/2003/2008, etc. 2. Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products 3. Experience in Server Hardening 4. File server security management 5. High level of experience with server installations, server support and designing solutions 6. Good knowledge of Windows protocols (DNS, DHCP, WINS, SNMP, SMTP, LDAP, HTTP, HTTPS, Power Shell) 7. Create solutions including virtual server implementations, highly available server systems distributed across multiple data centers 8. Antivirus Management/Server Security 9. The applicant must be able to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently. He/She must have the ability to prioritize tasks and complete assignments within an estimated time frame 10. Must be a self-starter and be able to use own judgment/initiative to undertake activities with minimal supervision 11. Must posess excellent communication and organizational skills. Good documentation skills are required 12. Microsoft MCSE certification or better. Linux certification a plus 13. Citrix experience is a plus 14. Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices 15. 3 + years experience in a GMP environment 16.
