This is a call for a funded, three-year PhD position in Athens, Greece at the 
“Archimedes” Center for Research in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and 
Algorithms (https://www.athenarc.gr/en/archimedes). Through “Archimedes” Greece 
is expected to be at the forefront of science, in a field of knowledge whose 
importance is constantly increasing and now has multifaceted applications 
across the spectrum of economy, society, industry, etc.

The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team who focus on 
the processing of under-resourced language varieties. The main objective of 
this position is to develop morphologically, syntactically and probably 
semantically annotated corpora for Greek dialectal varieties, use them for 
comparative studies of language models and infuse neural models with knowledge 
from linguistics. 

Background required: (Near-)native knowledge of Modern Greek, Degree in 
Linguistics (or equivalent, degree in Modern Greek Linguistics is preferred), 
background in Corpus Annotation for NLP purposes (morphology and/or syntax), 
Python programming, familiarity with Machine Learning principles. The 
candidates should have completed or be close to complete a relevant MA or MSc 
course.

Desired qualifications: Studies in formal  and computational linguistics, 
experience in the formal analysis of language, experience with NLP and ML 
tools.
