Augsburg is looking for one:

The Applied Computational Linguistics (ACoLi) Lab at the University of
Augsburg, Germany, has been created in early 2023 as part of the Hightech
Agenda of the Bavarian State Government. Headed by Prof. Dr. Christian
Chiarcos, the group concentrates on research topics in natural language
processing, natural language semantics, and knowledge graph technologies,
as well as the application of these technologies in digital humanities and
language technology. A specific research focus is the exploration of Linked
Data technologies in this context.

The University of Augsburg is a campus university in the city of Augsburg,
Germany, in the Munich Metropolitan Region. It brings together fundamental
research with applied research questions under the guiding vision of a
network university. The university has a traditional focus on law,
economics, social sciences and the humanities, along with promising fields
in the natural and technical sciences as well as medicine. As part of a
more general initiative in digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, the
university is actively expanding its portfolio in the areas of natural
language processing and digital humanities with the creation of several new
professorships in this direction.

The position is a faculty position (Akademische/r Rat/Rätin (m/f/d) Bes.Gr.
A13, or Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in (m/f/d) TV-L E13) for an initial
period of 3 years, extensible by another 3 years. The successful
candidate (m/f/d)
will contribute to the strategic development of the group. Together with
Prof. Chiarcos, they will be responsible for the coordination of research
and teaching activities within the group and in the wider context of the
University of Augsburg. They are expected to develop and to contribute to
grant proposals, research collaborations and scientific networks of the
group, and they are encouraged to develop their independent academic
profile in this process and by developing own research proposals.


*Your tasks:*

   - Contribute to the group’s research, network, dissemination and
   publication activities.
   - Co-operate with colleagues from the humanities and from computer
   science in the development of collaborative research and teaching.
   - Develop an independent research profile and support or develop
   proposals for third-party funding.
   - Contribute to the course programme of the group on topics of
   computational linguistics and/or digital humanities.
   - Work towards a habilitation thesis or equivalent (“second book”).

*Your profile / Our requirements:*

   - Completed doctoral thesis in computational linguistics, linguistics,
   computer science, data science or a related field.
   - Research focus in one or more of the following areas:
      - natural language semantics (e.g., WSD, SRL, NER, IE, AMR)
      - computational discourse (e.g., anaphor resolution, discourse
      parsing, implicit SRL)
      - NLP for low-resource or historical languages
      - Linguistic Linked Open Data or RDF technologies
      - Infrastructures and workflows for NLP or digital humanities
   - Strong scientific track record, including publications in the ACL
   Anthology and at either major NLP conferences, major Semantic Web
   conferences (e.g., ISWC) or venues that address both communities (e.g.,
   LDK, LDL)
   - Solid background in machine learning and/or knowledge graph
   technologies.
   - Demonstrated experience in software development and/or programming.
   Familiarity with state-of-the-art libraries for machine learning and data
   analytics.

*Your abilities:*

   - Strong competences in conceptualizing, conducting and evaluating NLP
   or DH research in a collaborative manner.
   - Excellent ability for self-initiated working and structured
   organization of work.
   - Very good communication and interpersonal skills, in particular
   enjoyment to work in an interdisciplinary team and with international
   collaborators.
   - Strong ability to present complex scientific and technical matters
   fluently in English. Ability or commitment to develop such skills for
   German, as well.
   - Motivation to teach aspects of NLP, computational linguistics or
   digital humanities, to participate in the supervision of students and in
   the group’s initiatives for public relations.

   - Availability: as of now
   - Limited for an initial period of 3 years
   - The position is intended full-time, but can also be filled part-time,
   provided that job-sharing ensures that the duties can be performed
   full-time.
   - Salary: up to pay group 13 according to the collective agreement for
   the public service (TV-L E13) or as a civil servant (Akademische/r
   Rat/Rätin (m/f/d), Bes.Gr. A13), dependent on the assignment of tasks
   and qualifications
