The Department of Linguistics at University College London is looking for a
Lecturer (~Assistant Professor)/Associate Professor in Computational
Linguistics, beginning in September 2025.

About us

The UCL Linguistics department has a track record of innovative and excellent
research in formal theoretical linguistics and the cognitive science of
language. It is part of the UCL Division of Psychology and Language Sciences
(PaLS), which is ranked second in the world for psychology (Shanghai Global
Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022) and UCL is the top-ranked university in the
UK for research power in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience according to
the UK’s Research Excellence Framework 2021. Part of the Faculty of Brain
Sciences, we lead the way in the fields of mind, behaviour and language.

About the role

The Department of Linguistics seeks to train the next generation of linguists
who are comfortable integrating computational approaches into their research;
and to offer our undergraduate students development in skills that are
applicable in the information/data industries. Thus the expectations for the
role will include carrying out computational research that makes substantive
contact with language theory or research on cognitive science of language;
advising masters and doctoral students; and contributing to the departmental
teaching in natural language processing, computational linguistics, and
linguistics, more generally.

About you

The successful candidate will have a clear program of research within
computational linguistics which makes contact with language theory or cognitive
science of language. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record
of high-quality publications and research-related activity commensurate with
the stage of their academic career. They should hold a PhD in computational
linguistics or a closely related area. The successful applicant will be
expected to commence their appointment at UCL on 1st September 2025.

Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

As London’s Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and
innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world’s
talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and
inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong. We therefore particularly
encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in
UCL’s workforce. These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority
backgrounds; disabled people; LGBTQI+ people; and for our Grade 9 and 10 roles,
women.
