*Interview mode: Telephonic followed by Skype* Brief Description: The Web Developer is part of the central ITS web team and works to build and support website technology, including UI/UX and understanding how users interact with the Client’s website on different platforms and devices. Detailed Description: The Web Developer is part of the central ITS web team and works to build and support website technology, including UI/UX and understanding how users interact with the Client’s website on different platforms and devices. The Web Developer will perform roles in the planning, development, and managing of web-based technology and user-centric solutions in the university’s web environment. This includes involvement in the research and discovery phase of website startup projects to understand how users interact with the Client’s website through analytics, observation, and testing. By working with the team’s designers the Web Developer will help define how to create a simple and efficient experience for users. The Web Developer will create interactive prototypes and help present design drafts, concepts, and ideas in front of real users. Through an iterative design process will collaborate with the web team to solve design, functionality, and usability issues for a seamless user experience. The position also has a leading role in determining and planning the information architecture for new and revamped websites. Project management skills and the ability to complete projects involving numerous stakeholders are necessary. The Web Developer will also be called on to work with peers and consultants to define website technology needs and implement to completion. Supervision received; general project oversight and direction provided by the University Web Coordinator/Manager in Information Technology Services. *Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* Website Oversight and Technical Development Responsible for overseeing the School of Leadership and Education Sciences website and integrating technology services and systems that will enhance the experience for site visitors over time. Manage the school’s website environment and support the maintainers of that site. Develops web pages for the university’s website as directed. Creates CMS templates from provided designs and implements on university website; converts raw images and layouts from a graphic designer into HTML/CSS files including dynamic elements. Ensures that the visual presentation and content of websites reflects and enhances the overall branding, visual identity practices, and marketing plan of the university. Meets with clients (faculty, staff, and students) to make recommendations on advanced, interactive, and engaging features on the main Client website. Develops wireframes that help show clients, departments, and peers website direction before coding begins. Responsible for technology advising to continually improve university websites; this includes advising of web leadership/peers as well as customers. Creates and follows through on project scoping to outline milestones and deliverables to peers and customers. *User Experience:* Leads and plans information architecture efforts for both new and revamped websites across campus; helps ensure a sound and intuitive menu structure for all university websites. Works with the team’s designers to help define a simple and efficient experience for users on desktop, tablet, mobile, and other emerging platforms and devices; this includes functionality of menus, web page components, and how the user interacts with elements throughout a site on a number of devices. Works collaboratively with design peers to recommend new features on the Client website including web technologies as well as cross-platform technologies. Helps solve design, functionality, and usability issues for a seamless user experience. Understands how users interact with the Client website through analytics, surveys, observation, and testing. Creates interactive prototypes and helps to present design drafts, concepts, and ideas in front of real users. Creates, defines, administers, and reports on A/B testing scenarios. Works with development and programming peers to ensure usability concepts are adhered to in final website build and helps make adjustments during process. Tests and evaluates web-based technologies; assesses the feasibility of these technologies and software, and makes recommendations. Tests websites thoroughly. Ensures sites function properly across a variety of browsers and devices, and performs site validation checks. Other Duties as Assigned JD: Qualifications: Minimum: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher-education institution in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Website Design, Interactive Media, or a closely related field. • Technical • At least two (2) years of experience in web development. • At least two (2) years of UI/UX design experience. • Experience with information architecture design and organization for large-scale corporate or academic websites. • Experience working within a responsive design framework. • Experience in translating wireframes and design mockups and turning them into HTML/CSS. • Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) methods and standards. • Understand the importance of staying current in the technology field and rapidly learning new and changing software, tools, and products. • Experience with 508/ADA compliance. • Experience training non-technical peers and developing documentation for website maintenance and usage. • Professional Abilities • Be committed to mission and vision of the university. • Always demonstrate a positive attitude and professional demeanor. • Ability to work well independently and in a dynamic team environment, and interface well with many individuals (administrators, faculty, students, and staff). • Have excellent interpersonal, communication, customer-service, and problem-solving skills. • Be able to discern problems and facilitate resolutions. • Organize, analyze, and prioritize workload effectively and efficiently, with minimal supervision to meet deadlines. • Ability to advocate for your own ideas, but also the ideas of others. • Have project management skills both for working independently and helping to keep milestones on track when playing a role in a bigger project or task. Preferred: • Basic PHP experience. • Knowledge of or experience working in a higher education environment. • Experience with AP style. Performance Expectations: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Experience or good working knowledge of the following: • Technologies: HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript • Graphics tools: the Adobe professional suite including Photoshop and Illustrator • Web Tools: CMS tools (WordPress and Cascade Server preferred), responsive frameworks (Foundation preferred), version control software • Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) methods and standards • Knowledgeable about web-related emerging technology and development Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
