Dear COSE WG,

The new version of draft-ochkas-cose-ascon is out. It covers Ascon-Hash256 for
HKDF and MAC. I will be happy to present the details during the IETF meeting,
thanks for this opportunity.

Any opinions on how Ascon should be integrated into COSE are very welcome, so
feel free to share them.

Also, I will participate in the Hackathon, where I will prepare the setup with
2 underwater nodes. The nodes are going to implement the following
communication stack:
1. AHOI PHY - physical layer of the AHOI underwater acoustic modem.
2. SCHC - Static Context Header Compression, an adaptation layer allowing the
reduction of the overhead of upper layer protocols from 50-80 B to a few bytes
(see RFC 8724, RFC 8824).
3. IPv6/UDP/CoAP - standard IoT protocol stack.
4. OSCORE + COSE + Ascon - security layer that provides E2E security with
lightweight Ascon suite. This implementation follows the draft
draft-ochkas-cose-ascon.

The main goal of this setup is to show the importance of using lightweight
security mechanisms for networks where devices have very small MTUs, limited
computational power, and limited energy.

Don't hesitate to meet me there. This will be a great opportunity to discuss
the topic of security in the context of extremely constrained IoT, including
related work on the draft.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,
Dmytro Ochkas
