Hi Peggy

A quick answer ….

At least for Co. Tyrone/ Ulster

Go to the Valuation Revision books for the townland -- online images are on the
PRONI website, free and unrestricted access -- try say the “F” series for the
period around 1901-1911 and you should find the family homes as per the
1901/1911 Censuses.

You can then track the same house and fields back through earlier Revision
Lists to the Griffiths Valuation say ca 1858-60, and voila, you’re able to use
the GV maps on askaboutireland … (individual property numbers tended to
remain unchanged)

Subject: [CoTyroneIreland] locating from Census

How do I locate the current modern location of a house from the 1901-11 Census
records, for people who are in the Census, but NOT in Griffiths?

The Census don't seem to have a street/road address for rural locations.

My goal is to visit my ancestors home locations, I also want to google map the
homes.

Thank you! Peggy in Canada.

Hi Rick

Possibly the best website to go to is
<http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/>
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

These will reference actual plots and houses to families listed in the
Griffiths valuation, with a map overlay that you can “slide” through the ages
from the 1850s to today.

Covers the whole of our beloved emerald island ….

Warm regards

Does anyone know if there are plats on file anywhere that would physically
locate the individual properties within a particular townland? I know where the
two townlands are in which the family farms were located, but I do not know how
to locate the actual properties. I will be visiting there later this year and
hope to find them.
