Les,
PRONI hold the originals for St Columba’sbut these are not generally open to
the public for preservation reasons. Theyalso have a microfilmed copy of the
same records and that’s what the MICreference prefix means. They are open to
the public.

PRONI will do simple searches for a fee(quite expensive). So if you have a
fixed date and want a photocopy of theentry, they will generally do that. But
if you want a trawling search (eg all childrenof X couple between 1805 & 1830),
that takes too long and they won’tnormally undertake that. You need to get a
researcher for that.

can search PRONI’s holdings of MICROFILMED Church records at
https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/sites/default/files/publications/Guide_to_church_records.pdf
This is PRONI’s Guide to Church Records. MIC refers to the microfilm. The
individual records you are seeking are not available for online browsing: you
could make enquiries with the staff re. the possibility of copies.   Hope this

Subject: Re: [CoTyroneIreland] St Columba's Church, Omagh   Thanks for the
speedy response, Len.     I'm sure what you've sent me would be useful if I
knew how to use it. I haven't been able to find an online search facility for
church records. Would I have to go to Belfast to look at what you've sent me.
Does the MIC refer to microfiche?     Thanks for your help which is most
appreciated. Les.    On 7 May 2017 at 14:37, Len Swindley

Subject: [CoTyroneIreland] St Columba's Church, Omagh Can anyone help me with
viewing the records of baptisms in this church for the early nineteen hundreds?
I have details from my grandfather's military record which are attached and I
know Rev. Babington was vicar there. I have been in touch with the church but
the Curate has told me the records were all sent to the public records office
in Belfast. I haven't been able to find anything there. I'd be grateful for any
help with this. Thank you. Les Leckie
