GEORGE LOFTUS
I searched briefly but unsuccessfully for your George but the below 1901 census
record may be his parents ie father John Loftus (Gortgones, Tuyllyniskan,
Co.Tyrone). John’s year of birth would be about 1839 and his wife Rachel
(Harrison – see below)1841.
Based on the census information, I found a birth records for Anne Kittle (also
Kyttle) for 6 Feb 1891. (Mother Mary Jane Loftus; father Edward Kettle (Broom
Maker), Coalisland, Co.Tyrone) Plus Robert Kettle – b. 5 May 1889.(NB.
Mother’s surname recorded as Lofthouse!). Also Eliza Jane – b.23 April 1893;
and William James (not present on census) 23 Aug 1895. All children of Mary
Jane Loftus and Robert Kettle.
Mary Jane Loftis age 20 (NB another spelling!) married Edward Kittle age 22
(this surname is spelled numerous ways in different records – typical of Irish
records of this era) on 13 May 1889 in Coalisland. Mary Jane’s father is John
Loftis. Mary Jane was probably a sister of George Loftus/ Robert George
Loftus. It is unusual to have two living brothers with the same names so is
it possible that they are the same person? Usually that only happens when one
child dies and the next child is called after him/her. And it was not
uncommon for people to be known by their second name ie Robert George Loftus
may have been known as “George”.

I also searched for Robert George Loftus and found a baptism record
(Rootsireland). He was the son of the above John Loftus and Rachel
(Harrison). Mary Jane Loftus, his sister (above) was born about 1869.

These records are from Rootsireland. The spelling variations make it a bit
tricky searching but you get used to it over time and second guess what the
recorders wrote down.

Hi. I'm looking for information regarding George Loftus of Dungannon. He had a
brother Robert George Loftus. I'm doing a family genealogy and I can't find
George's full name or the name of his mother. His wife was Elizabeth
McCullough and his father's name was John. And of course I'd like the date of
birth and death for his parents if possible. George died of Gastric Catarrgh
February 12, 1901 in Belfast. His wife 'Lizzie' returned to Brackaville for a
time and then moved to Belfast again. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
