Hello again Tom, Yes, Irish genealogical research progresses slowly, but this is how things are in Ireland. Have looked at Keily civil registration records (1880-1900) in Strabane Registration District and occurred in the St. Johnston-Raphoe district in Co. Donegal (Strabane RD extended into Co. Donegal). I think it unlikely that your Kiely forebear was of these Catholic families given the Chambers affiliation with the Dutch Reformed and Presbyterian churches in NYC. Was unable to look at the 1874 death registration of Eliza Keily as it has not yet come online.
Keily is a most uncommon name in Tyrone; there was only one person recorded in Tyrone in Griffiths Valuation (c1860) and that was in the town of Dungannon, in the east of the county. The name is prolific in southern counties of the Republic. I did not receive an acknowledgement of my previous email to you containing an amount of interesting data relevant to your forebears and extended family. Dave Mitchell’s information also forward was remarkable and extensive. Wishing you well with your trip in June and am certain you will enjoy every minute. Regards. By the way, plans for our trip to Ireland in June are progressing well. We will be in Newtownstewart June 14-15. I came across this ancestry.com hint when tracing back the family of Anna Keily (1830-1884) who was Thomas Chambers wife in NYC. Anna's father William Keily was a saddler in NYC. Eliza Keily B: 1834 D: 1874 age 40 Strabane Vol 12 p.210 FHL Film # 101587 So, I am wondering if Thomas knew the Keily family from the Strabane area before emigrating to the USA. Can you find anything about Eliza? I tried to look this up in GRONI and I think it won’t let me look at it since it is after 1864. Tom Chambers
