He emigrated to America in about 1830 and family lore is that he and one brother came over on a ship carrying horses and probably jumped ship to stay in the US. It is also rumored that his parents may have died before he left Ireland. The name Agans, in its current form, does not seem to exist in any records in Ireland. I have nothing to verify that it could have been Agan or even O’Hagan. I have been unable to determine his religion (Protestant vs Catholic) so I cannot narrow down a search in church records.
