Subject: Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] Chambers family, Newtownstewart, Tyrone

Len, Dave, Jim,

Making more progress on my ancestors from Newtownstewart.  Again thanks for all
your help.  Jim, I am getting close to being able to summarize things for the
three children of John and Martha Chambers:  George, Thomas, and Mary Ann.
Thomas and Mary Ann, being the ones that emigrated to the USA.   George stayed
in Ireland.

After doing more research on George, here is some interesting stuff.

Look at this article about Pauline Clotworthy, famous dress designer.  She
would be the grand-niece of the wife of my 3rd great-uncle, George.  In the
third paragraph it has a reference to Daniel Köhler who in 1741 moved to Tyrone
along with the

George (1824-1901) married Eliza Goodwin Keohler of Enniscorthy, Wexford
(1827-1908)
Her parents were Thomas Goodwin Keohler (1800-1879) and Martha Roberts
His parents where Daniel Köhler (-1836) and Elizabeth Goodwin (1778-1823)

Now, back to my family in the USA…..

Looking at the baptismal records (NYC) I looked closely, and the names of
Thomas’s (from Newtownstewart) children are:
Thomas Maclear Chambers  (Maclear being the maiden name of Martha whose
brother was Sir Thomas Maclear)
George Keohler Chambers   (middle name later changed to Keller)
He  is my great grandfather.  My grand father was also named George Keller
Chambers Jr.

Finally, one more divergence into the Keohler family………

This artlcle from the James Joyce Online Notes, talks about Thomas Goodwin
Keohler (1874-1942)  <this is now the grand-son of the same name mentioned
above> and James Joyce being good friends.  Thomas also wrote poetry.  Thomas
eventually became Secretary for Hely’s in Dublin.   This Thomas would be an
uncle of Pauline.   It is easier to just look at the ancestry tree!!!!

Finally, this ties in with the recent post by Henry Bruns where he talked about
his grandfather Robert Hely Thompson (alias Robert Blake).   Another member of
the family of Irish Poets.

This sleuthing takes lots of time, but it is fun.

Tom (Thomas Keller Chambers)
