Thanks, Peter -- as you say, some interesting coincidences there, so I'll keep
an eye open for further connections.

Your post caught my attention because Hammond is a rare name about Londonderry
and Strabane.  My interest is because a Hammon might be in my direct line.

John Kinkead married Anne Hammond on 30 September 1762 by Rev. Richard Waddy,
rector of Cumber parish, County Londonderry.  He was quite likely the John
Kinkaid of Ballycallaghan, Cumber Parish who was recorded in the 1774
Freeholders Register.

As I said, Hammond is a rare surname is the western part of county Londonderry:
William Hamon of Londonderry, Templemore parish & Alexander Hamond of
Waterside, Clondermot parish are all that appears in the 1740 Protestant
Householders lists; Richard Hammond of Mullaboy townland, Cumber Parish had his
Will registered 18 March 1796.

Kincaids were not native to Cumber Parish.  They almost certainly migrated over
the county line from Donagheady parish, County Tyrone and are connected to
Leckpatrick parish via family connections over the years.  They were once in
Stoneypath where your Carnwaths/Carnwaiths seem to have been.

One Alexander Hammond came to Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada at the same
time as my Kincaids (1820) and settled on a nearby farm.  I came across a
family history of this family and they appeared to be from Inishowen, County
Donegal.  However, the Carys/Careys of Donagheady parish had a branch in the
Carndonagh area in Tristram Cary.  His predecessor, Tristram Cary, was once
seneschal of Donagheady parish.  Rev. John Pitt Kennedy of Carndonagh married
Mary Cary, only daughter of Major Thomas Carey of Loughash, Donagheady Parish,
County Tyrone and they had William Pitt Kennedy who became of Loughash and
married Mary, daughter of John Chambers, in 1823.  I can't find my Chamber
references at the moment, but I think he was of the Chambers who had a part of
Collermoney - next to Stoneypath.

Finally, the Cunninghams are also connected to the Kincaids and also came over
with my Kincaids and settled on adjacent farms.  The St. Columb’s Church of
Ireland Cathedral Registers, Templemore Parish, Londonderry records the
marriage of Mary Kinkade and John Cunningham on 16 September 1810.

So this is nothing conclusive, but we have a series of coincidences here.
Perhaps you should look more at the Inishowen Hammonds and keep in mind the
above interconnections.  I will try to find notes on the family here.

Best wishes!

Peter

I'm keen to find out more about my gg grandparents and any other
descendants, especially as I'll be visiting County Tyrone later this year.

My g grandparents, William GRAHAM and Sarah CARNWATH were married on 15 Feb
1855 in the Presbyterian Church, Artigarvan, Parish of Leckpatrick (near
Strabane) and migrated to Australia a few months later.  They were married by
Rev. Moses CHAMBERS and the witnesses were James SIGERSON and John CUNNINGHAM.

William's parents were Haman (or Hammond?) GRAHAM [Pay Master Sergeant,
35th Regiment, British Army] and Nancy GRAHAM (maiden name unknown).

After a long break working on other family branches, I'd now like to find
out more about Hammond and Nancy, but my efforts over the last few days have
borne little fruit.

Does anyone have links to this couple or can anyone suggest avenues of
further research that might bear fruit?  Grateful for any suggestions.
