Hello Listers, This off-list query was forwarded from Jim McKane for my thoughts some time ago and it seemed so muddled that I put it aside, the details so obscure and the references to Lyon making no sense at all. Chances of finding the native place of WILLIAM and DAVID BAILEY seemed totally elusive. However, re-reading Dr. William Roulston’s “Three Centuries of Life in a Tyrone Parish: History of Donagheady 1600-1900” I located a reference to DAVID BAILEY in Boston writing a letter in 1827 to his brother JOHN residing in the townland of ROUSKY (Donagheady parish) – he wrote letters to both brothers back home in Ireland describing his property and extolling the good life he was living near Boston. In 1827, David Bailey wrote that “the hard time was so plenty when I was there that I will not go back to Ireland again”. Undoubtedly the Rusca referred to in the query is ROUSKY, which is pronounced locally as ROOSKAY. William Bailey was from Rusca, Lyon, Ireland. He was born About 1770 and marriage date of abt 1798. Wife was born abt 1775 in Rusca, Lyon, Ireland. His brother David Bailey was born 25 Dec 1799 in lre, Tyrone, Lyon. Marriage 1833 in Hamburg, Erie, New York, USA and spouse was Patience J. Gwinn. William Bailey and family came to the United States 19 Aug 1828 to new York. They stopped in Canada before coming to new York. Any help?
