Irish surnames altered over time with Mac being spelled as M' or Mc or dropped 
altogether, like with the actors Dennis and Randy QUAID. I have over 40 
possible spellings of my name, for example. Try searching 
www.failteromhat.co<http://www.failteromhat.com>m but put QUADE then try QUAID 
in the search box and you will get dozens of hits for Counties Monaghan and 
Tyrone, going back to the Hearth Money Lists of the 1660s and the 1796 Flax 
List.

MacQuaid, -Quade (Mac Uid son of Wat) A well-known name in Co. Monaghan and 
adjacent areas. Without the prefix this name is found in Co. Limerick. Edward
