Dear Listers, Dave’s post epitomises the philosophy of the true genealogist – the interest, ability and desire to assist fellow researchers achieve that seemingly almost impossible goal of Irish researchers – the location of the native parish and townland of our emigrant Irish forebears. In many instances this can only be achieved and interpreted by the knowledge of fellow genealogists with local experience and expertise.
Thank you Dave for your generous assistance towards my own research: and yes, Listers, Dave’s knowledge of Dutch church records located the baptisms of the children of a clergyman forebear in Amsterdam in the early eighteenth century. Such data came only through a common interest in the Strabane, Leckpatrick and Donagheady parishes in north Co. Tyrone. Who would have thought?
