Elwyn, Yes, I have explored that. I have the register from the church where they were married but the marriage was not recorded in the New Jersey State Archives. I paid for a search to be done there. The church did not record parents’ names of the bride and groom.
Andrew and Jane were indeed married in New Jersey in 1871. Four of Janes’ siblings also were married there. Andrew and Jane’s oldest child was born in New Jersey in 1872 but they were in Scotland in 1874 for their second daughter’s birth. Andrew was working at the Shotts Iron Works. Their youngest child was born in Cookstown in 1885. Andrew gives his birthplace as Ireland on the 1881 and 1891 Scotland census and as County Tyrone on the 1901 and 1911 Ireland census. Have you tried to locate that marriage certificate, as it should tell you quite a bit more about the couple? (All their parents names etc). Otherwise you may just be guessing. For others looking at this query, here’s the family in 1901: National Archives: Census of Ireland 1911 <http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/St__George_s_Ward_Belfast/Abingdon_Street/954162/> National Archives: Census of Ireland 1911 National Archives Elwyn On Monday, 26 April 2021, 00:04:48 BST, charlottegorley--- via CoTyroneList <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > wrote: If this is not allowed, please delete. Some of Andrew Berkeley (Barclay and other spellings) and Jane Weir’s children were born in Ireland and some in Scotland. By 1901 the family seems rooted in Ireland. On census records Andrew says he was born in County Tyrone. I have not been able to find Andrew’s parents. Potential parents are William Berkeley and Sarah Bellis (married 1840) but I have no proof. I have been able to trace their other offspring, but Samuel remains a mystery. I have this birth record and he appears on the 1901 Ireland census with the family group. After that the trail is cold. Has anyone here found a Samuel Berkeley/Barclay born October 19, 1882? Or Andrew John Berkeley/Barclay born c. 1849?
