Dear Juliette, Len, and Jim, My sincere thanks to you for this fascinating piece of social history. Poor Catherine Caldwell…underpaid for years and subjected to such unbelievable meanness after all those years of service to the sick and destitute!
It’s possible that this lady was one of my relatives as the family hailed from the Omagh area. My great-grandfather, Robert Caldwell (1836-1881), was baptised in the 2nd Presbyterian Church of Omagh. Wonder if they were sibs?
