wondering, the Yank (me) is wearing the tie-dye shirt, Elwyn is wearing the

Dave (who today met another cousin with shared G-Grandma, down in County
Leitrim! Saw original Knott homes at Corramartin (in beautiful repair!) and
Derrinkeher Raycroft (decrepit, someone attempting to recover it), as well as
the Evans family home Drumerkeane (decrepit, though likely used as a country
place in the 1970s since I saw a cassette tape on the table).
Quite a trip,
Dave

Dave,Thank you for sharing this lovely reunion with you and sending the photo
of you and Elwyn! It is lovely to see the face of this kind, generous, really
skilled man.
He was instrumental to me finding my family's church and the benefits of that
at my visit to Carnowen, County Donegal, last September.
Safe and HAPPY travels,Valerie

How often does one see the church in which their great-grandparents were
married in 1874 (3000 miles from one's home), AND meet in real life four people
whose great grandma was a sister to one's own great-grandma?
Today was my day for this, thanks in no small part to Elwyn Souter's assistance
with investigation to confirm several things, not the least of which was
identify the location of the Venables family farms in Cormore and Tullycorker,
as well as the Foster (my middle name) farm in Tullyquin Glebe.
As Elwyn noted, I was lucky to have some solid leads: my great grandfather's
wedding registration in the US with both of his parents' names from County
Tyrone, leading to William Venables and Annabella Foster and their marriage at
Aughentaine Presbyterian, and the trail was pretty warm. Elwyn's going to PRONI
to find records that pretty much confirmed our theory about the Foster family
and Annabella's mother's name were quite exciting finds.
While we were visiting Aughentaine Presbyterian today a woman and her son
wandered in -- turns out that HER first cousin had told her that a distant
Foster cousin from the US would be at the church at 3pm today, so she just
arrived and we had a lovely conversation :-) plus tea late this afternoon with
the cousin whose name I had known previously (met via an acquaintance of a
cousin on the Knott side - see PS - who said "I think I took care of a Foster
in the old age home, let me check into it for you" and sure enough that led to
these two additional cousin meetings.
The Irish are amazing.
Here's a picture of Elwyn and I back in Dungannon so I could pick up my car
after our spending the afternoon together.
One never knows when strands of information might come together...
Dave PS: Tomorrow I'm headed to County Leitrim in the care of another cousin
whom I met via MyHeritage (again, g-grams were sisters, this time on the
Knott/Evans side) ; she and her sister will take us on a tour of various Evans
and Knott connections including two original Knott homesteads :-) Monday I'll
meet up with the 83-year old owner of Corramartin, one of these places).
