Very interesting comment about the Presbyterians, who relied on oatmeal, faring 
better during the famine than the native Irish whose mainstay was the potato.  
I have wondered how my Tyrone and Tipperary ancestors coped in ’The Great 
Hunger’ and whether one group was better off than the other.  A local historian 
in Thurles, Tipperary talked about   Protestant churchmen who dispensed food in 
exchange for conversion.  People there still talk about how some desperate folk 
“took the soup” and became Methodists, Baptists, etc.
