Will,

Pomeroy is  a small village (popn 759)  in Co. Tyrone. Omagh is the county town
(popn 20,000).

There are no private phone books in Ireland now. They were abolished as so few
people use landlines these days.

I looked in the 1911 census for Co Tyrone. There are about 6 Susan Woods who
were single. None had siblings with the names you have given. None lived in
Pomeroy.

However this family in Moymore in the 1901 census does have 4 children whose
names appear in your list. So it's a strong possibility. They were farmers and
so reasonably likely to stay in the one place. Your Susan looks to have left
home by 1911.

In 1901 there was a Susan there, so I’d say that is probably your family.

In 1901 there were 29 homes in Moymore and 106 people lived there. 2 Woods
households. Here’s Susan’s birth certificate. She was born at Moymore. Her
parents were John Woods and Mary Conway.

Parents married in 1876:

The family farm is a couple of miles from Pomeroy. It was 18 acres (shown as
plot 11 in Griffiths Valuation) and today is up a lane off the modern
Loughbracken Rd. Near a firm called Architectural Timber Frames. The land
remains farmland but the farm buildings all appear to have been demolished.
There might be a few ruins still standing. Difficult to tell from a slightly
fuzzy satellite image. Perhaps someone in that area might know if any Woods
still live nearby. You would probably need to knock on a few doors to find out.

Hi Jim,Thanks for the response.I am looking for information on my father's
mother.  My mother's maiden name was Ruehl. She was from a Prussian family,
Schnabel.  Her great grandfather graduated medical school around 1950, and was
recruited to come to America and take commission as a Field Doctor in the Union
Army during the Civil war.   Her family had a falling out with my dad's folks,
so No one will share any information on my Paternal grandparents, though both
died back in the 1970's. My paternal grandmother was from the Tyrone area. the
village was small and Woods still live in  Her maiden name was Woods, Susan
Woods.  Her brothers were Patrick, James and Peter.  Sisters were Alice,
Catherine, Mary Ann, Agnes,Rose and Brigid.  I believe some of the family still
resides in Pomeroy County, Tyrone in Northern Ireland.  All I heard from my
niece, Loren Rodgers who visited there in 2022 was the area is called Omagh. I
do not know if that is  a village, city or county? Amy help will be
appreciated.  Does Ireland have population detail records.  It seems very
difficult to even get something like a telephone number by looking for a Phone
book?I currently live in Lithuania, and I think it is less than 2 hours by air
gfrom here to Belfast or Dublin.Blessings,Will Rodgers Author:

Well said Jim, Not everyone used the custom of sur-naming after the paternal
line. Take our own granddaughter who, for professional reasons, retained her
maiden name on marriage. Then, to compound the problem, her daughter (our great
granddaughter) was given her mother's surname (better to call it family-name, I
suppose, since 'sir' didn't convey his) and not her father's. Haven't asked why
and it's not that her father had a strange name. So we continue to stumble
along the family genealogy line in our searches. 😊

  Will,
Was your Mother's maiden name Rodgers and that is why Patrick O'Shaughnessy
changed his name to Rodgers?  I visited Tyrone last August and met several
relatives, Rodgers and Maguire some of them ended up in Philadelphia.  Most of
the my Rodgers' relatives ended up in Ohio.

Hi, My name is will Rodgers, I am working on research for my father's side
of our family.  His mother left Ireland somewhere between 1920-25.  at about
age 20+.  She took an ocean liner from I believe Galway port.  She was bound
for New York.  She was to meet a family in the US who lived in Patterson, New
Jersey.  Next I found she met a Patrick O'Shaughnessy in Philadelphia.  Patrick
had a hard time getting a job so he changed his last name to Rodgers.  Susan,
Mrs Rodgers somehow acquired a small business deliverng Ice, and later coal.
She also renter out rooms in thieir house to earn money. Would know where I may
find any surviving relatives in the Tyrone area?  I moved from the US in 2019,
and live in Lithuania. I could easily visit in July if you find any information
