I have almost completed the installation of the extended baggage
compartment
in Alon A2 serial # 238. The following comments have been made to Univair,
and I believe that they are going to send most of you a few "extras."
Figure 3 of the M 10 Parts Catalog gives a pretty good picture of how
all
the pieces fit together. If you can picture the top elevator cable running
above the structure on Frame D, and the control mast sitting just in front
of
the structure on Frame E, it all makes sense.
- there are no upholstery clips included (-35) is called for and shown on
the
plans. The detail on how to make them (2 required) is at the very top of
the
blueprint in area 10.
- the 415-52226 fairlead included with the kit does not fit where shown on
the change page. Univair is supposed to send you all 52469 fairleads which
will fit. It goes centered between the two rivets on the rear of the
center
support. don't forget to follow the change sheet which shows the rivets
fastening the rear cross member to frame F being counter sunk instead of
brazier head. The seat belt fitting fastens over the top the bottom three.
- there is no detail on the cargo tie downs. Apparently one pair goes on
the
#10 screws that fit in the spacers and hold the upper support for the rear
seat back in place.
- there is no detail on the floor fasteners. I put in #8 blind nuts on all
four corners of both pieces. You can use the four blind nuts for the front
floor board to hold the side angle floor supports in place as well as the
floor.
- the last two 3/32 rivets on the side supports are very tough to buck. I
recommend using HA/------- pop rivets which are almost as good.
- I found the holes drilled in the plywood rear panel to be at 11.75" from
the bottom instead of the 12.75" called out in the drawing. So I moved the
rear support down 1". be sure to check yours before you put it in place.
- the rear panel has no support at the top. I put an angle across frame F
down about an inch from the top of the opening. Then one blind nut in the
middle holds the panel nicely. Bob White said he would check his parts
bins
and if they had enough of the clips called out in the M 10, he was going
to
send them to you all.

As a caution, there is a significant amount of sheet metal work involved.
So
if you do not feel comfortable doing it, I recommend getting someone to do
it
who is comfortable with it. I would say you need about two dozen 3/32 and
two
dozen 1/8 clecos to hold all this structure in place while you fit it. I
took
about 40 hours to fit and install it, and still have not made the side
panels
for the upholstery.

Good Luck! <g>
