Hi Glen,

I experienced a similar experience after my coupe had been sitting several
months.

Since 1984 I had been using exclusively Amoco 93 Octane.....Auto fuel.

However I had notices it no longer smelled like ether, but had an asphalt
smell ( like other gas).

I sent a sample to Amoco tech folks...they declined to discuss the issue,
and
said there was nothing they could do.

I do think it is Algae...see older postings on this list about Green
Stuff.....

Today fuels are pumped thru the pipeline, separated by a slug of water, or
simply the slug is decanted off and reprocessed , in order to keep the
gasoline seperate from the fuel oil, the jet fuel, etc...

As you expressed you are aware of Algae problems in jet fuels.....Industry
uses Prist to kill algae...SUPPOSEDLY doesn't occur in AV fuel or auto
fuel,,,,but WE have experienced it.

I frained all my tanks, rensed them with av fuel, and changed to AV fuel.
Also added prist.../ If I remember about 1 oZ per tank. Seems to have
cured
the proiblem at this point, tho I did drain green stuff for several
weeks...The green paste on my tank caps, did not re-appear.

Good luck....

I did not inform EAA...which I should have done... Maybe will do.
