Warren,

I know what you mean. I've called on parts for sale and gotten the same
message. I used to get my second class copy a couple of weeks after the
mailing day. I often got my first class copy up to a week after mailing
day. I've ___never___ gotten next day postal service from North Carolina
to Illinois for a letter, let alone a big Coupe Capers issue, and
especially not a 2nd class Coupe Capers issue! I DO know what you mean.

For years, I advised anyone wanting to buy a plane or hunt for parts to
get first class delivery. But first class depends on proximity to large
cities or sorting centers and their competence -- a mixed bag -- I've
seen documents take 7 days to get from one Chicago suburb to another.

As I recall, Skip said the reason the first class option was being
discontinued is that the post office is now handling the 2nd class
deliveries in a much more timely manner.  A few months after this change
was instituted, one of the west coast people asked, at the board of
directors meeting, for a way to get the ads to the west coast in a more
timely manner.

I'm not in the post office or overnight delivery business, I'm in the
computer business. Everything I do for the club's website is done for
free -- for the fun and community spirit of it. You know the saying,
when you're selling hammers, every job looks like it's a job for a
hammer. I think that providing the ads on the web site within a few
hours of mailing the issue provides the fairest distribution across the
country -- it's my personal opinion only and is not shared by all.

I've got to admit, it leaves the technically challenged people at a
disadvantage. Cost is no longer a factor since there are companies
that'll provide a free PC if you'll sign up for their service for X
years. Other companies will give you free, unlimited web access and
e-mail if you'll put up with their ads on the screen (you've usually got
to provide your own computer for the free Internet service -- about $250
at my local used computer store).

There ain't no perfect way, yet.

Skip has said we may post the ads a day or two after the issue is
mailed. We haven't gotten to the point of that first mailing since we
became ready -- so I don't know just what what we'll settle on exactly.
Equity and fairness will be the deciding factors.

If we mail the issue on day "0" should we post the ads on the website
before at 5 a.m. central time on day "1" or wait till day "2", day "3"
or day "?"?

If we wait any days, there will be people in the southeastern states
that get their issues before the ads are posted electronically -- should
those people have an advantage?

If we post the ads on the web site early in the morning of day "1",
members nationwide will get equal access, but they'll have to have some
very minimal technical competence and equipment no older than about six
or seven years and they'll have to make a choice to get the ads the
soonest way possible.

Is that the fairest thing possible? Again, equity and fairness will be
the deciding factors and each option just gives an approximation --
we'll do the best we can.

When we make a scheduling decision, I would like to post the ads at an
announced date and time, i.e. about 5:00 a.m. central time on an
announced date. If I'm not available to post the file, we have other web
site staff people who can do that to be sure we follow the schedule.

Since you posted your message to the list, I'll respond to the list as
well. I'm also going to send a copy of this response to the web
committee for their input.

If anyone on the list would like to comment, I'll be happy to forward
your comments to committee members who are not list members.
