Jim, I have never heard of the problem..../BUT.... The Coupe landing gear was changed in early 1946 - s/n 813 and later, to a forged unit. Earlier MLG was a welded up unit..... Then later, Alon introduced the spring type gear (but maintained the option for the forged type (s/n813 - Up). Perhaps the attempt to mount a later gear on an earlier coupe was not proper...
