Marvin,

This is how I got my G model for $3000.00.  The level of disassembly and corrosion removal/ treatment that you are going to have to do is phenomenal....

I've been at it since July-  you end up with a nice clean airplane but if your going to pay an A&P to do what I just did (and sounds like you are going to do) you will have about 8-10,000 into it!

You do not know right now if you have pitting- which if you do will require more extensive treatment and labor. So, 5000 is the absolute highest- have you inspected the entire wing and center section?

try to go below 5K if you can, but not above, especially with incomplete logs-
you are putting yourself at a slight risk, because if the corrosion is too extensive you will have to get your money out of it by parting it out.

Coupers,
I have found a coupe that needs some TLC (wing spar corrosion).  I'm not sure what a good price would be so here are some of the details maybe someone could get me in the ball park with what might be a fair price.

Year - 1946 (C Model) / Acft Serial # 1410 /  Engine - C75  W/465 hr SMOH / Bubble windshield / No pedals / Metal Prop / Gyro panel / Val 720 com / Metal wings / incomplete logs / Missing 337s.

I went to look at this airplane with the thought of buying it, the guy was asking $12,500.  He happened to have the Rt wing fuel tank out so I took a good look up the leading edge of the spar and found a lot of white powder so I knew it had some corrosion.  Then I looked at the top cap near the wing attach fitting and there it was.  I have never seen corrosion like this before, the top cap was completely rotted through, in fact it looked just like a piece of rotten wood.  The owner didn't know it was like that and you should have seen his face when I pointed it out to him.  I haven't seen the left wing but I wouldn't be surprised if it looks the same, and I don't know the condition of the center wing except that I didn't see anything alarming on the Rt side. I did notice more corrosion on the landing gear but that was all that I could see.  The engine looks really good and he has all the paper work on the rebuild.  He asked me to make him an offer, I declined to make one at that time, I want to get more info.  I was thinking that $5,000 - $6,000 would be fair.  Feel free to comment.  Thanks.
