Jim, there is no behind-the-firewall hose. The firewall fitting (which should have a shut-off door) vents to the area under the floor. The front (angled) floor piece should have an aluminum scoop device which feeds the warm air up to a vent hole in the board which allows the warm air to pass into the cockpit. I can't seem to find a drawing in the Ercoupe parts book, but anyway, mine works great. Even here in Wisconsin.
