----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Jim,
You need the Service Memorandum No. 35, and then Ercoupe Service Manual to do it correctly. But here is a quick check: With the control wheels level, check the aeliron position a the wing root. They should trail the wing root. If they do, check the mixer ( under the baggage compartment) and be sure the arms of the mixer are equally displaced for each side. Now pull the straight coupe forward about 10 feet. Do the aelirons still trail the wing root. If not, check all rigging for proper position. After checking that all rigging is peoper , then adjust the nose wheel control rod so the nose wheel is straight, and the aelirons trail the wing root when the coupe is pulled forward. Set the control wheels level, and check under the panel to dertermine if the control colume quadrant. If the quadrant is not centered, it must be adjusted while assuring the Mixer is centered. If they are, then check the position of the rudders. Are they trailing the vertical stabilalizers ?? The distance from a center line 90 deg to the elevator attachment bolts drawn to the rear of the elevator should be 49 3/4 inches on each side. (Be sure to check to see the rudder belcrank is not frozen.....and lubricate aif necessary..maybe even have to replace the bushing as per Ad and Service Bul Alon #14.) With Control wheel fully turned to each direction the aelirons should gow way down, then slightly back up; The rudders should move so that in the direction of the turn the inboard rudder moves further than the inboard one. Get the Manuals from Skyport or Univair for about $35 for the set.
