Al: The first thing to check is to make sure that the fuel pump has
the
restrictor fitting installed in the out line. The out line is the one on
the
right side with the 45 degree fitting in it. The fitting is plugged, then
drilled with a 1/16 inch hole to provide the approximately 7 gallons per
minute fuel flow rate. If you do not have the restrictor installed, the
pump
over fills the header tank and causes the problem you describe.
Also make sure that the vent in the cap is not plugged, and sits at lease
1/4
inch above the rubber grommet in the cowling. I have found the rubber
grommet
partially blocking the vent which will also cause the problem you
describe.
Also take the cap off the fuselage tank, and look inside to see if you can

see the fuel return line. If it is right near the top of the tank under
the
cap, it may be too high. I had this problem on an early serial # Coupe.
You can check the fuel return line to the left or right wing tank, by
loosening the fitting at the elbow on the wing tank inside the fuselage,
above the floor. Then gently blow into the line to see if the air comes
out
into the fuselage tank. If it is blocked, you would not be able to blow
through it.
Also, check the size of the vent holes in all three of the caps, if they
are
the vented caps. They must be the same size. If the vent hole in your
fuselage tank is smaller than the hole in one or both wings, this can
cause
fuel to be forced out of the fuselage tank.
I will be home this weekend, feel free to call me at 863 635 7916 if you
have
further questions.
