advice in this forum.]----

It has been a very long and hard road to locate someone who can reproduce
the Control wheel decals and the outside fuselage decals for "Alon
Aircoupe". I have finally located a company in Wilmington, Delaware, who
will reproduce them for us.
I would first like to have everyone understand that these decals
(originals
supplied to me by Warren) are extremely complicated to reproduce. I will
attempt to describe the process to you in a layman's language that all can
understand.
The material is a brushed aluminum foil with a adhesive backing.
The originals were hot-stamped with foil (not printed)in four colors;
Black,
dark blue, light blue and gold. After these colors were applied to the
brushed aluminum, they were then passed throug another press to be
"embossed" in the words "ALON" and in "Aircoupe".
Now that is not the end. We still have to have a die made to cut them out
in
the wierd shape of the originals. This requires a die and then sent back
through the press again to cut them out of the press sheet.
Now let me recap what materials we will need to purchase produce the final
product.
[1] We will have to scan the originals and output the individual colors in
the form of a B/W negative, right reading, emulsion UP! (4 plus one for
the
blind embossing)
[2] A hot stamping die has to be made to foil-print the black.
[3] A hot stamping die has to be made to foil-print the dark blue.
[4] A hot stamping die has to be made to foil-print the light blue.
[5] A hot stamping die has to be made to foil-print the gold.
[6] A embossing die (this is a male/female die) has to be made to do the
embossing.
[7] A die has to be made to die-cut the two sizes out of the paper after
it
is complete.
Item 7 can be omitted and a hairline black line can be printed so we can
cut
them out with a pair of sissors to save money. (about $150.00)
Now that all the groundwork is completed and I have found a company that
specializes in this work, I only have ONE remaining obsticle.
It takes two decals for the control wheels. It takes two decals for the
outside. The two sizes will be run in combination on a single press sheet.
All I need to know now is HOW MANY OF YOU OUT THERE WANT TO SPEND $20.00
for
the complete set of decals?
At this moment I do not have a firm price, but in talking with the MFG of
the decals today, it appears we would be in the $2,000 range (+/-). This
means we would have to sell 100 sets at $20.00 to pay the bill.
In closing, I would like to say that these decals are VERY IMPRESSIVE
after
being installed on the airplane. The sun's UV has NO EFFECT on the
coloring.
The only thing you cannot do is use abrasive polishes on them. It is this
kind of detailing that really makes all our hard work look professionally
finished.
I am the the FIRST in line to commit to buying TWO sets!
