Just my experience, but my experience has been that if you have noticeable
nose wheel shimmy it's typically because you have a worn or loose linkage
between either the rudder peddles or in the case of coordinated controls,
the yoke. You can check this by applying a little pressure to the rudder
peddles/yoke in one direction upon landing. If the shimmy goes away your
linkage is likely loose/sloppy and is letting the wheel act a little like
the wheel on a shopping cart . First check the ball joint to make sure
it's tight. It's amassing how much shimmy you can get if it gets the
slightest bit loose. A half turn with a wrench does wonders.. Better
yet, replace the ni-lock nut so it doesn't back off. Next check for wear
in the ball joint itself. If it's sloppy it probably needs to be
replaced. Again, just my experience...
Hope this helps
