Jimi.......The best way to look over the "Glacier Girl" story is to go
to
google. com and just type in "Glacier Girl" and hit search. They have
several
sites and it is surprising how extensive they all are. To raise money
for the
project they even sell tickets for a raffle on a plane somebody donates
for
the cause. Every part of this monster fighter has been redone. If I was
fighter pilot in WW2 I would have preferred a P-38 over any other Allied
fighter.......'forked tail devil' the germans called her. The P-38 also
was
responsible for shooting down Admiral Yamamoto........it was the only
aircraft with the range to intercept his transport. All in all, the P-38
was
the most awesome fighter of WW2.
And David....I am distressed if what you say is true........I am
looking
forward to being there. I have been next to several P-38s, but have
never
heard one start up. That has to be absolutely awesome. I hear the ground
vibrates under your feet and those Allisons cancel any conversation you
may
attempt. I need to experience it. I will check today and see if they
have
found a way to go ahead with their plans. I also hear the pilot flew one
in
WW2 and I just have a feeling that after a few full power taxi runs he
might
just lift her off.........LOL. I sure would have a hard time keeping her
on
the runway!
Wilburn.........I am in Knoxville and I'd really like getting
together and
talking 'coupes with you. I am putting N99610 back together. Still
looking
for bunches of parts......anybody got a complete tailfeathers? Cheap?
Her sn
is 2233 and is registered as a C but has a C90 installed. The guy I
bought
her from never came up with the rest of the parts, so I'm shopping for
them.
Anyway, let me know when you are coming up and I'll meet you.
And last, but not least, y'all need to check out our blackberries we
have
around here in the foothills of the Smokies. Almost as good as our
raspberries.....and wild strawberry jam is a specialty too. Ummmm! And
the
best wine I have EVER tasted was muscadine wine...also known as fox
grapes.
Big old wild grapes the size of golf balls. You need to experience that
taste. You will be hooked. I have travelled extensively and never saw
them
anywhere but here. Heard of Pawpaws? I have the grandaddy Pawpaw patch
down
by the river. They are just now ready to start picking......vanilla
custard!
Yum! Makes a great pie. Hmm, lets see, Pawpaw pie with rasberry icecream
and
smothered with fresh blackberries and cream. Oh, shush!
