Hi folks.
I am just off the phone with the Guys of Univair.
I asked about the new Sport Pilot Rules and what they know about it and
what actions are planned, if any.

A Revision of Type certificate 718 , which would be the best solution to
include the Ercoupe to the list of eligible planes, is not planned or
considered. Univair can not invest any money in that direction, because
there would be no return. And they are afraid this investment might be
big. They told me that in preparation of the proposed AD towards the
main spar they already manufactured spars, only to find out that they
might be too expensive when being sold (around $5000) so they are afraid
this investment won't pay off. Why would they invest even more??

So it is as it is. The Ercoupe is a little too heavy and stalls at a
little higher speed and flies a little faster then the rules admit.
Unless someone comes out with a ERcoupe - Kitplane, or one manages to
register a Coupe under Experimental I don't see how the Coupe would fit
under the new rules.

The only thing left is to complain about it.

( I personally don't care much because a weight limitation even to 1260
Pounds is still not good enough for me and I am 42 Years old, think that
I make the Third class medical for the next 15 years - until then rules
change again anyway)
