According to his book, "From the Ground Up," Fred Weick was the design
lead
for the Cherokee. It was the capstone, IMHO, of his brilliant career.
Many
features from the Ercoupe were incorporated.
* Wing dehidral for stability
* Tri-cycle gear
The were also improved. Fred found that it was cheaper to do all
aluminium
construction rather than cloth covered frames because of the labor
savings.
But they were also tempered by market "realities." The rudder peddle and
stall returned. Flaps were added. Still in all, a triumph. The basic
design
lasted longer than the management of the New, New, Really New Piper
Aircraft Company.
