Hi fellow Couper; To answer your question about the fuel capacity, I have
to
say "it depends." If the coupe in question is an early serial number,
i.e., prior to 814, then no. Early coupes had a different main landing
gear,
which required different main tanks. Their wing tanks only hold about 7.5
gallons each.
If the serial # is 814 or later, "it still depends." If it has been
modified
with the tanks that have the gauge in the left hand tank, then yes, it
should
hold 18 gallons in the wings. The gauge is visible on the inside of the
cockpit, below the pilots left thigh. If the wings tanks have not been
replaced, then no, they only hold 8 gallons each.
The fuel pick up comes from a tee in a line that connects both tanks. This
pick up line is routed above the floor on the right side of the cockpit.
The
fuel shut off to the pump, can be located above the floor, by the wing
spar,
or further up the line, behind the instrument panel.
If the header tank gauge is starting down early, i.e., you can only
put 12 - 13 gallons in the wings, it sounds like a vent is plugged, or a
line
is partially plugged. The system should be checked by a mechanic who is
knowledgeable about the Ercoupe fuel system.
