Pete. Like David Abrams said , check your battery first. I had similar weird experiences with a toast Battery (in my car, but that's a similar system) The 12 Amp Generator is good enough to run 150 Watts of load continuously at 1500 RPM and more. This is a landing light plus radios. If your Battery stays loaded in your plane and you do experience the low Voltage I would suspect the Generator due for a Rebuilt. I would measure the Voltage during a run-up. My Lowrance 300 has a display showing the Voltage - Garmin Units should too. The Voltage should go over 12 Volts when reaching 1300 RPM. If this is not happening it could still be a fickeld up Battery which just acts as a big draining resistor. Change Battery and observe Behavior. If Problem exists I would suspect the Generator rather than the regulator. I haven't heard about the larger output Generators. Don't you have to change the regulator then too ??? Maybe not. The advantage of getting an alternator is that the alternator produces more than 12 Volts at around 600 RPM versus the 1300 RPM for the Generator. Giving you juice for the Taxi lights when taxi. But if the Battery is kept in a nice (charged) shape , I do not see a need to crank out the extra $500 and fight through an approval for that ... Good luck fixing the problem Pete Thomson wrote: > ----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- > > Good morning all, has anyone put a higher output generator on their Coupe? > The ammeter on my Coupe continuously flickers to the charge side and back, > even without the strobe on.
