John,

When I first got my Coupe the belts were in poor shape. I had the
existing
hardware re-webbed by http://www.aircraftbelts.com in Texas. I paid
$55.00
to re-web both seat belts in Sept 1991. I suspect it is a bit more now
<g>
but it is likely to be much lower than new belts and the result looked
great. You may want to give them a call.

Note that new hardware has a TSO tag on it not an STC - is that really
what
your mechanic wanted? Is he refering to shoulder harnesses? Seat belts
are
TSO'ed since 1987 so there was no requirement for TSO'ed belts in the
Ercoupe. You may want to make sure you and your mechanic understand what
is
required by the type certificate. Take a look at their FAQ at
http://www.aircraftbelts.com/faqs.html

They can also supply new TSO'ed belts.
