Alan, after many years of vibrating the aluminum becomes brittle (work 
hardened) and begins to crack.  Also you may have stresses here and 
there at your attach points which are causing it to crack.  Either way 
you may need to replace it with a new one.  If you do, make sure no 
stress points are introduced when attaching it.
