Hi Tom. I don't think anyone is saying you must be doing spins. A couple of us (at least) think they are very beneficial, and I do think practice spin entries and recoveries (especially ones simulating the turn to final entry) are mandatory, but actual spins aren't necessary. Some old-time "my way is the only way" instructors will disagree, but they're wrong. You can be a safe pilot having never done spins, just like you can be a good pilot never having flown a tailwheel. If someone is taking lessons in something other than an Ercoupe, and has the means to finish that training, I think they'd be better off doing that rather than getting the private in an Ercoupe. Isn't there some restriction to your license if you take the practical test in a 2-control airplane like the Ercoupe? If so, how do you later have the restriction lifted? With a ride with an examiner? Or a CFI checkout? I'm curious. There's nothing wrong with someone getting a rating in an Ercoupe if that's what he wants to fly, but if he's already halfway there, I'd say get it in the 3-control thing and be done with it. --Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Dold ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) http://home.pacbell.net Say NO to useless over-quoting ----------------------------------------------------------------
