It turns out that the single-piece venturi is known to cause rich-running in some installations. I spoke with an expert named Pete today at Precision Airmotive, and he said that it sounds like mine is running lean, as I guessed. He thinks I may have the wrong venturi installed, or maybe a brass jet is missing. I'll pull the carb probably tomorrow and see if either one is the case. It would be an easy fix if that's what it is. I'll keep you guys posted...
